TACA CERTIFICATION SERVICE


TACA has managed the Texas certification program since January of 1996.

Certification is separate from TACA membership. TACA Membership is renewed on a year to date basis. Certifications are renewed every three (3) years providing the individual has acquired 30 hours of continued education.

Individual’s that had Advanced or Administrative Certification that expired 12/31/07 renewal applications were mailed January 7, 2008.  No Basic Certification that expired 12/31/07 will be renewed at this time.

ABOUT THE 3 YEAR CERTIFICATION
When an individual attends a certification course basic, advanced or administrative they have 3 full years to re-certify.
Example: If you obtain your certification in 2003, your certification will expire 12/31/06.

If you are currently certified and obtain the required 30 hours of continued education, your certification will renew on 12/31 of the third year. Example: Renew 1/1/03 your certification will expire 12/31/05.


ACHIEVING NEW LEVELS
There are 3 levels of certification, basic, advanced and administrative. Each time you achieve a new level after your basic your current obtained continued education hours are deleted and you start obtaining CEU’s for that new levels re-certifications expiration in 3 years.

CONTINUED EDUCATION HOURS
Certification renewal requires 30 hours of continued education within the 3 year re-certification period. Of these 30 hours, 17 (17 hours is the maximum approved for any class or conference) must be directly related to the animal control and/or animal welfare profession. You can obtain not directly related CEU’s by attending for example; CPR class, defensive driving, and computer classes. Not directly related CEU’s hours are given to a maximum of 3 hours (hour for hour up to 3 hours).
You can also obtain CEU’s for taking internet classes. Classes that are approved for a maximum of 6 hours can be found on the TACA web site at www.taca.org
Verification of attendance must be sent to the TACA Executive Secretary with in 60 days of attendance. You can send copies of verification by either faxing to 936-875-3925 or mailing to TACA P.O. Box 150637, Lufkin TX 75915-0637.

FEES
The certification fee at the basic level is $50. When you certify at each of the other levels, advanced and administrative, the fee for TACA members is $25 and for non TACA members $50. To qualify for certification at the advanced level you must be currently certified at the basic level and to qualify at the administrative level you must be currently advanced certified.
Certification renewals are $25 providing you have the required 30 hours of continued education.
